The play “Aesop”, staged by students of the Culture and Creativity Center of Baku State University (BSU), has been named the winner of the “Pillə-3” National Student Theatre Festival, held among universities. The festival was jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and Education, the Ministry of Culture, and the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts.
The festival, which took place from May 26 to June 2, concluded today with a closing and award ceremony. A total of 19 performances by students from various higher education institutions were showcased throughout the event. BSU's “Aesop” was awarded the “Best Performance” title.
The stage director of the play was Vahid Orucoglu, director at BSU’s Culture and Creativity Center. The roles were performed by university students: Huseyn Jabbarli, Fidan Sultanova, Ramazan Ramazanzade, Nuran Atakishiyev, Rana Asadova, and Murad Gambarov.
The play is based on the life and philosophical fables of Aesop, one of the iconic figures of world literature. Aesop, the ancient Greek fabulist (6th century BC), is known for his short yet profoundly meaningful stories that have conveyed life lessons across generations.
Through animal characters, Aesop skillfully critiqued human nature and the strengths and weaknesses of society. Fables like “The Fox and the Grapes”, “The Wolf and the Lamb”, and “The Crow and the Pitcher” remain highly relevant even today.
