The International Chinese Language Day was celebrated at Baku State University (BSU), organized by the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Confucius Institute under the university's auspices.

The event began with a special dance performance showcasing Chinese culture.

The Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Aydan Khendan, highlighted that International Chinese Language Day, celebrated on April 20, was established in 2010 based on a proposal from the United Nations Department of Public Information. The initiative aims to promote cultural diversity and the equal use of six official languages within the UN. The Dean also provided information about the teaching of the Chinese language at BSU, noting that the university has offered a “Regional Studies” program in Chinese since 2004. In 2011, the Confucius Institute was established at BSU in collaboration with Anhui University of China. The institute has been pivotal in promoting and teaching Chinese language and culture. An international competition in Chinese, titled “Chinese Bridge,” is organized annually. Since 2022, the Faculty of Oriental Studies has also offered a specialization in “Chinese Philology.” Furthermore, on December 8, 2023, a tripartite agreement was signed between BSU, the Chinese Ministry of Education’s Language Education and Cooperation Center, and Anhui University to launch a joint undergraduate program in International Chinese Language Education.

The Director of the Confucius Institute at BSU, Wang Haoqiang, emphasized that the main goal of the institute is the high-quality teaching of the Chinese language, as well as expanding educational, scientific, and cultural exchanges between Azerbaijan and China.

Students conveyed the significance of International Chinese Language Day in Chinese. The event also featured a Chinese cultural fair, showcasing examples of Chinese calligraphy, games, and painting.
