Research conducted at BSU on the application of artificial intelligence in labor law
13-02-2026

A scientific seminar titled “Problems of the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Labor Law” was held at Baku State University (BSU), organized by the Faculty of Law within the framework of events dedicated to 27 March – Science Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the seminar, PhD in Law Elmira Gazvinova-Hasanzade delivered a presentation. In her speech, she discussed the impact of artificial intelligence technologies on modern labor relations, the new challenges created by digital transformation in labor law, and the growing relevance of legal regulation in this sphere. It was noted that artificial intelligence is no longer merely a technical tool but has become an active mechanism involved in workforce management, productivity assessment, and decision-making processes.

The speaker paid particular attention to the concept of algorithmic management, emphasizing that AI-based systems perform functions such as workforce planning, task allocation, wage determination, employee monitoring, and performance evaluation. While this contributes to increased labor efficiency, it also raises legal concerns, including the risk of discrimination, the protection of personal data, and the potential weakening of social security guarantees.

The presentation also analyzed the use of artificial intelligence in recruitment processes, the functioning of digital labor platforms, and technological tools used for employee monitoring, as well as their implications from a labor law perspective. It was highlighted that one of the fundamental tasks of labor law is to ensure the protection of employees’ rights and freedoms during the implementation of such technologies.

The seminar continued with interactive discussions, and participants’ questions were addressed.
