A scientific seminar entitled “Prospects for the Use of Bioenergy in the East Zangezur Economic Region” was held at the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University as part of activities dedicated to Science Day in Azerbaijan.
The seminar was presented by Shams Alizada, a doctoral student of the Department of Geographical Ecology. In his presentation, he provided a comprehensive analytical assessment of the bioenergy potential of the East Zangezur Economic Region based on the region’s agricultural and natural resources.
As part of his research, the speaker investigated livestock manure resources, crop residues, agricultural waste, and other biomass sources. The calculations took into account manure production by livestock type, biogas yield from biomass, energy equivalents, and potential bioenergy output. Comparative analyses were conducted on biomass resources and biogas production potential across the districts of Jabrayil District, Zangilan District, Gubadli District, Lachin District, and Kalbajar District. He emphasized that livestock manure represents a key resource for biogas production and presented estimates of its energy equivalent and the region’s potential bioenergy generation capacity.
The research findings demonstrated that the East Zangezur Economic Region possesses significant bioenergy resources and that the efficient utilization of agricultural waste could contribute substantially to the development of alternative energy production. The speaker noted that the implementation of biogas technologies would be important not only for strengthening energy security but also for ensuring environmental sustainability.
The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session and extensive scientific discussions on the topic.
