The republican selection round of the 6th Azerbaijan Astronomy Olympiad for students of grades IX–XI from general education institutions will take place on February 1.
The main objectives of the Olympiad are to increase students’ interest in astronomy, promote a broader inclusion of astronomy within the education system, and ensure the preparation of winners for participation in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad.
The Olympiad is jointly organized by Baku State University (BSU), the Education Institute of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after N. Tusi, the Republican Children and Youth Development Center, and the Amateur Astronomers Society Public Union.
Students who achieve successful results in the online stage of the Olympiad will qualify for the final round to be held at BSU. The winners will be awarded medals and gifts and will be involved in preparatory training courses for the 19th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad, which will be held in Vietnam from September 25 to October 5 this year.
Preparatory classes for the Olympiad will be organized at the University and the Republican Children and Youth Development Center by experts from BSU and the Center. In addition, a one-week summer camp will be organized at the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after N. Tusi for the members of the team selected for the international Olympiad. The Amateur Astronomers Society Public Union will also conduct training sessions for school students on the use of telescopes.
The participation of the national team in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad is supported by the Education Institute of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The 6th Azerbaijan Astronomy Olympiad and the preparatory courses for the 19th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad are implemented with the main sponsorship of the Tusi–Bohm Planetarium, the only planetarium in the South Caucasus.

The Olympiad will be conducted online on February 1 at 11:00 via the www.oxuyan.az examination platform.
