On February 2, a forum dedicated to Azerbaijan Youth Day was held at Baku State University (BSU), organized by the BSU Student Youth Organization, the Student Trade Union Committee, and the "BSU Volunteers" organization.
The event began with the national anthem, followed by a moment of silence to honor the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our lands.
In his speech, BSU Rector Elchin Babayev stated that Azerbaijan Youth Day is closely associated with the name of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, who laid the foundation of the state’s youth policy and defined it as one of the key directions for Azerbaijan’s development. He noted that, 28 years ago, with the decree signed by the National Leader, February 2 was first officially celebrated as Youth Day in the CIS and Eastern European countries. This initiative became a model for many others, later leading to the declaration of the International Youth Day by the United Nations General Assembly on December 17, 1999. Babayev emphasized that the decrees, laws, and state programs adopted by Heydar Aliyev played a crucial role in organizing the youth and elevating their societal activity, engaging them in state governance, and ensuring their productive employment.
He also highlighted that the youth policy of Azerbaijan has entered a new phase under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. Babayev mentioned several key actions, such as the development of the educational system, fostering patriotism, and ensuring the comprehensive social protection of the youth. He pointed out that, today, around 200,000 students are enrolled in higher education institutions, and under the State Program approved by the President, hundreds of young people are gaining knowledge in prestigious universities worldwide. Furthermore, young Azerbaijani athletes are achieving success in international competitions, and the "Strategy for the Development of Azerbaijani Youth 2015-2025" focuses on issues such as education, employment, and the development of creative and innovative potential among youth.
The rector also expressed that BSU contributes significantly to the implementation of youth policy through various initiatives, including the Student Scientific and Technical Creativity Center, the Student Scientific Society, and the Student Youth Organization. He noted that BSU students' success in international competitions, such as "TEKNOFEST" and "Robotex Eurasia," is a direct result of the university's efforts to enhance the students' knowledge and skills.
In their speeches, Gadir Khalilov, the Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Youth Foundation, Vugar Aliyev, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Volunteer Organizations Union, and Rashad Zeynalov, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Student Youth Organizations Union, discussed the role of the state’s youth policy in shaping Azerbaijani youth as a modern, developed, and highly intellectual leading force.
During the event, the winners of the “Young Scientist of the Year” competition, dedicated to Azerbaijan Youth Day, were announced. Additionally, 40 students who excelled in academic performance and actively participated in the university’s social life were awarded certificates of appreciation.
The event concluded with a concert program organized by the BSU Culture and Creativity Center.
