04-10-2024

A scientific conference on "Accelerating Research and Collaboration for Climate Action" is being held, organized by Baku State University (BSU) as part of Baku Climate Action Week.

The main topics of the conference focus on the scientific and practical aspects of climate change. Discussions will cover the importance of empirical data, artificial intelligence, and advanced analytical tools in achieving significant progress in climate action, the impact of climate change on the management of transboundary water resources, new approaches and international collaboration mechanisms, as well as the synergy of joint initiatives at the international level and the necessary global and regional cooperation opportunities.

The processing of empirical data and the use of advanced analytical tools play a key role in more accurately and rapidly predicting climate change and implementing climate policies more effectively. The conference will include extensive discussions on the use of artificial intelligence technologies in predicting climate change and combating it. Topics such as the applications of artificial intelligence in climate modeling, analytical processing of large datasets, and ways to make optimal decisions based on real-time data will be debated. This topic is also crucial for accelerating climate action on a global scale.

Climate change has a significant impact on the management of water resources. It alters the quantity and quality of water supplies, potentially creating issues in interregional and international water distribution. The conference will discuss new approaches and collaboration mechanisms for managing transboundary water resources. Regional cooperation is essential for resolving these issues, with a particular focus on the protection of global water resources and their equitable distribution. Practical proposals will be put forward for fairer and more environmentally sustainable management of water resource sharing among neighboring countries.

International cooperation in combating climate change will be at the center of discussions. As climate change is a global problem, it requires coordinated action among countries. The conference will explore how joint initiatives can create more effective synergies and discuss ways to establish global and regional cooperation mechanisms in this regard. Key topics will include the implementation of agreements reached under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the more efficient realization of national climate plans (NDCs) by countries, and the advancement of common climate goals at the global level.

The proper collection, analysis, and use of empirical data play a significant role in the fight against climate change. The conference will address how this data can be effectively collected and shared. Additionally, innovative technologies and solutions in climate action, including carbon capture and storage technologies, the application of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, and waste reduction innovations, will be significant discussion topics.

Climate change affects not only ecological systems but also socio-economic systems. The conference will examine how these impacts influence economic growth, poverty, migration flows, food security, and job creation at both regional and global levels. Specific steps regarding the economic and legal measures that governments should adopt in the fight against climate change, as well as how to formulate and implement policies, will be a topic of discussion.

This comprehensive program will open up opportunities for experience, research, and collaboration in the global fight against climate change and will be a significant step in preparation for COP-29.
