At the initiative of the Department of Social and Pedagogical Psychology of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology at Baku State University (BSU), an event titled "Psychoprophylactic Work with Hearing-Impaired Individuals" was held.
The event was attended by Leman Hasan-zadeh, Director of the "Cochlear Azerbaijan" Rehabilitation and Recovery Center; audiologist Elmar Allahverdiyev; ABA therapist-educator Nasiba Agaverdiyeva; along with the department’s academic staff and students.
Prof. Kamila Aliyeva, Head of the Department of Social and Pedagogical Psychology, spoke about the significance of the event. Leman Hasanzadeh provided information about the activities and services offered by the "Cochlear Azerbaijan" Rehabilitation and Recovery Center. Audiologist Elmar Allahverdiyev briefed the participants on the importance of hearing aids and cochlear implants, emphasizing that these devices are crucial tools to help individuals with hearing loss perceive sounds more effectively.
ABA therapist-educator Nasiba Agaverdiyeva explained that ABA therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis) focuses on addressing behavioral problems in children and is used for behavioral and developmental disorders. She noted:
"ABA training is an indispensable method used in the correction of autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders, and intellectual disabilities. This type of therapy involves observing behavior, setting goals, measuring behavior, analyzing results, and effectively modifying behaviors. ABA therapy helps children develop cognitive, communication, language, and social skills. Experience and research show that starting ABA therapy at an early age yields more effective outcomes."
At the end of the event, numerous questions from students were answered.
