An awareness event on the topic "Combating Environmental Crimes: Legal and Organizational Approaches" was held at Baku State University (BSU), organized by members of the Student Trade Union Committee (STUC) from the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science and the Faculty of Law. The primary aim of the event was to enhance environmental awareness among students, enrich their legal knowledge, and strengthen their sense of social responsibility regarding environmental protection.
In their opening remarks, faculty representatives Ibrahim Novruzov and Salman Vahabov emphasized that, as in many other sectors, significant efforts are being made in Azerbaijan to solve environmental problems, preserve nature, and restore ecological balance. Strict measures are being taken against both legal entities and individuals who violate environmental regulations. They underlined the importance of conducting public awareness activities, particularly among youth.
Rashad Murshudov, a lecturer from BSU's Department of Criminal Law and Criminology and an official at the Judicial-Legal Council Office, spoke about the risks that environmental crimes pose to society and human life. He stressed the need to improve legal mechanisms in this area. Murshudov explained the legal framework outlined in the "Environmental Crimes" section of the Criminal Code, specifically Articles 247, 248, 249, and related provisions. He detailed the responsibilities and penalties associated with these violations, including fines, administrative measures, and criminal liability. It was noted that such offenses adversely affect not only the country's environmental security but also the sustainable development of society. Therefore, protecting the environment and preventing related legal violations is a priority of state policy.
The event continued in an interactive format, where students posed questions about the protection of their rights, environmental conservation, and the challenges encountered in enforcing environmental law.
