Baku State University (BSU) and Huawei have signed a cooperation memorandum.

A delegation from BSU, led by the Rector, is on an official visit to China at the invitation of Huawei Technologies Co., LTD. During the visit, which also involved representatives of several other Azerbaijani universities, opportunities for collaboration in high technologies, artificial intelligence, and innovations in higher education were discussed.

The delegation visited the “Huawei Corporate Business Exhibition Hall” and the “5G and Artificial Intelligence Exhibition Hall” in Shenzhen, known as the city of technology. They were introduced to Huawei’s advanced technologies and received detailed information about the company’s applications in artificial intelligence, 5G and 5G-A, cloud technologies, and smart city solutions. The possibilities of applying advanced technologies and AI in education and research were also showcased.

At the official meeting held at Huawei’s headquarters, attended by David Wang, Huawei’s Vice President for Corporate Communications, Angela Lin, Vice President for the Middle East and Central Asia, and other company representatives, discussions focused on “Artificial Intelligence” and “Intelligent Education” applications, as well as prospects for bilateral cooperation. Concrete steps were identified in areas such as partnerships with higher education institutions, student training and internship programs, joint projects, and the creation of innovative laboratories.

As part of the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between BSU and Huawei. The cooperation framework envisions the implementation of training and internship programs in technology and innovation for BSU students and researchers, conducting joint research in artificial intelligence and information and communication technologies within BSU faculties, expanding teaching and laboratory facilities in smart technologies and 5G infrastructure, and the potential establishment of joint innovation centers and support for the startup ecosystem.

The delegation also held meetings at Huawei’s Research and Development Campus in Dongguan, Dongguan University of Technology, and the Global Cybersecurity Transparency Center.
