On June 14, 2023, Tahir Javadzade, a doctoral student of the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, Baku State University (BSU), successfully completed a three-month research program at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy.
Under the supervision of Professor Luca Di Palma at the Department of “Chemical Engineering, Materials, and Environment,” Javadzade developed a natural sorbent derived from food waste. This sorbent has the potential to remove heavy metals from wastewater. In particular, natural sorbents that effectively eliminate copper from wastewater are also planned to be tested for treating oil-contaminated waters of the Absheron Peninsula.
It should be noted that Javadzade’s research stay in Italy was made possible within the framework of the EU-funded project ITACA (2019–2023) – “Innovative Training Center to Support the 3rd Cycle Level of New Master’s Studies in Environmental Emergencies in Azerbaijan.”
