Baku State University (BSU), expanding its international commitments in the fight against climate change and sustainable development, has joined the Climate Action Network for International Educators (CANIE). This step is a significant indicator of the university's strategic efforts in ecological responsibility, responding to global challenges, and fostering international collaboration.
CANIE is a leading non-profit network that brings together institutions and experts from the field of international education. The organization's primary goal is to encourage active participation from higher education and academic mobility sectors in the fight against climate change and to contribute to the development of practical solutions in this area. The network's recognition by the QS Sustainability Ranking highlights its growing global impact in addressing climate change within higher education.
As part of its CANIE membership, BSU will focus on reducing its carbon footprint, enhancing environmental education and awareness initiatives, developing green campus strategies, and implementing sustainable and environmentally-friendly academic mobility models.
This initiative aligns directly with BSU's already successful environmental programs—particularly the "ECOLEAD" project and the "Green University" concept—further strengthening the university's leadership in sustainability and responsible environmental practices in higher education. Notably, BSU is the first Azerbaijani higher education institution to join this network.
