On June 18, the rector of Baku State University (BSU), Elchin Babayev, participated in a panel discussion held within the framework of the Global Sustainable Development Congress organized in Istanbul, Türkiye, by the prestigious ranking organization Times Higher Education (THE) and the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye (YÖK).
The panel, titled “Azerbaijan Showcase: How Universities are Shaping Their National Sustainability Legacy,” was moderated by Ulkar Sattarova, director of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education of Azerbaijan. Alongside the BSU rector, the panel featured Rufat Azizov, rector of the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University; Metin Sitti, president of Koç University; and Norbert Csizmadia, chairman of the Board of Trustees of John Von Neumann University.
During the discussion, Elchin Babayev provided detailed insights into the activities being implemented at BSU within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including the alignment of scientific research with sustainability objectives, awareness-raising initiatives, the integration of sustainability principles into the university’s internal policies, and opportunities for international cooperation.
It is worth noting that this panel carries significant importance in demonstrating the role and contribution of Azerbaijan’s higher education institutions in the field of sustainable development at the international level.
