The faculty members and students of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science and the Faculty of Biology of Baku State University (BSU) participated in a round table discussion at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) dedicated to World Wildlife Day on March 3.
The head of the MENR’s Environmental Awareness and Communication Department, Sayyara Mammadova, stated that since 2013, March 3 has been celebrated worldwide as World Wildlife Day to promote the importance of wildlife conservation and the diversity of rare plant and animal species. The theme for this international day in 2025 is “Financing Wildlife Conservation: Investing in People and the Planet.” The goal is to build a sustainable future for both people and the planet. Currently, more than one million species are at risk of extinction, and our planet is facing an ecological crisis.
At the event, the Deputy Head of the MENR’s Biodiversity Protection Service, Arzu Babayeva, the Director of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Azerbaijan office, Elshad Asgarov, and the Director of the Azerbaijan Ornithological Society, Elchin Sultanov, provided students with detailed scientific and educational information about the significance of the day, the conservation and reintroduction projects of rare and endangered biological species, Azerbaijan’s ornithofauna, and the protection of rare bird species.
At the end of the event, the head of the MENR department, Sayyara Mammadova, presented the book “Nature of Azerbaijan” as a gift to the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of BSU.
Finally, participants’ questions were answered.
