03-05-2025

A closing ceremony of the sports tournament dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty” was held at Baku State University (BSU), organized jointly by the Student Trade Union Committee and the Sports and Health Center.

Before the official ceremony, the final match of the interfaculty football tournament—part of the wider sports competition—took place, determining the third-place winner. As a result, the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science defeated the Faculty of Physics to claim third place. In the final match, the Faculty of International Relations and Economics triumphed over the Faculty of History, securing first place.

The closing ceremony commenced with the national anthem and a minute of silence in memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

In his speech, Alish Aghamirzayev, Vice-Rector for Social Affairs, Student Affairs, and Public Relations at BSU, emphasized that the Azerbaijani people celebrate the 102nd anniversary of National Leader, architect and founder of the independent Azerbaijani state, and distinguished BSU alumnus Heydar Aliyev, with great respect and pride. He noted that following Heydar Aliyev’s return to power, youth, sports, science, and education became national priorities — a policy that continues successfully under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. Azerbaijani youth are now distinguished worldwide for their achievements in both education and sports. The Vice-Rector also highlighted the accomplishments of BSU teams in national-level competitions across various sports disciplines.

Tehranagha Abdullayev, First Deputy Chairman of the Republican Committee of the Free Trade Union of Education Workers of Azerbaijan, and Zohrab Javadzade, Chairman of the BSU Student Trade Union Committee, congratulated the teams for their success in various sports competitions.

At the conclusion of the event, the winners of the sports competitions were officially announced and awarded trophies and medals.

It should be noted that the tournament featured competitions in five different sports disciplines, with the participation of over 300 students.
