A scientific seminar was held at the Faculty of Biology of Baku State University (BSU), presented by Ramin Hashimov, a doctoral candidate of the Department of Zoology and Physiology, on the topic “The Impact of Ecological Factors on the Species Ophisops elegans, Lacerta strigata, Tenuidactylus caspius (Reptilia, Sauria) in Azerbaijan and Their Cytological-Histological Investigation.”
The seminar discussed the habitats, adaptation mechanisms to ecological factors, and tissue-level changes in these lizard species, which are considered important for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem studies in Azerbaijan. Research conducted on specimens collected from various ecosystems was presented, highlighting the effects of urbanization, temperature fluctuations, and other factors on the morphological and histological structures of these species.
Ramin Hashimov’s studies demonstrated that prolonged stable warm conditions lead to increased parasite activity in some species, and that the average annual temperature of an ecosystem directly affects the morphometric characteristics of the lizards. The doctoral candidate also presented significant findings regarding changes in the distribution ranges of these species.
Participants engaged in a scientific discussion on the topic, emphasizing the theoretical and practical significance of the research.
