A competition-exhibition titled “EcoDay-2025” was held at Baku State University (BSU) in honor of June 5 – World Environment Day, organized by the “Bioteam” club of the Faculty of Biology. The event aimed to raise ecological awareness among students, emphasize the importance of recycling, and strengthen a sense of environmental responsibility in youth.
Participants included the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Afət Məmmədova; Head of the Department of Humanitarian Affairs and Youth Policy, Ramin Səmədov; Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Vüsal Məmmədov; department heads, faculty members, and students.
Over 20 handmade projects were exhibited, primarily crafted from recyclable materials. Many of the artworks were created using natural dyes, further emphasizing the ecological theme and drawing great interest from attendees. While students had creative freedom, they were required to submit a written explanation and a list of materials used for their work.
Based on the jury’s decision and anonymous voting by participants, the winners were announced as follows:
1st place: Zeynab Abdullayeva (2nd-year student, Faculty of Biology) for “Pacific Ocean, Silent Storm”
2nd place: Kenan Huseynzada for “The Revived Battery”
3rd place: Aishanur Mayilzada, Gunash Ibrahimli, Huseyn Mammadzada, and Sama Huseynova (Faculty of Physics) for “Spectrometer”
Speakers at the event drew attention to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. It was noted that achieving these goals is not only the duty of producers but also consumers. Food waste, plastic pollution, and unsustainable consumption habits are pressing environmental and societal challenges today. Therefore, fostering ecological thinking and behavioral change is essential.
In addition to giving students a platform to showcase their creativity, EcoDay-2025 encouraged them to take a more active role in promoting environmental responsibility and building a sustainable and green future.
