23-06-2025

On June 23, Baku State University (BSU) launched the "Euronews Academy" international training program, organized within the framework of cooperation between the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (MEDIA) and one of Europe’s leading news networks, Euronews.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Fernando Soares, Executive Director of Euronews in Baku, stated that the program aims not only to equip young journalists with skills and knowledge in accordance with international standards but also to shape them into professional media experts capable of responding to the current challenges of the information environment. He emphasized that the project would make a significant contribution to the production of high-quality and objective news, with a strong commitment to ethical journalism.

Natiq Mammadli, Deputy Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, noted that such international platforms play a key role in enhancing professionalism in the media sector, promoting modern journalism standards, and acquiring new skills in the digital era. He stressed that the training program would contribute significantly to the development of the information landscape in Azerbaijan and enrich local journalists with international experience.

Dean of the Faculty of Journalism at BSU and Deputy Chairman of the Press Council, Vugar Aliyev, stated that such initiatives encourage the integration of young journalists into global media processes. He highlighted that programs offering direct interaction with international experts provide students with the opportunity to complement their theoretical knowledge with practical skills.

The first day of the five-day training program, held in a specially equipped classroom at BSU by the Media Development Agency, was dedicated to the topic "Digital News Gathering and Data-Driven Journalism." Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of digital news collection, data analysis, and fact-based journalism in a session delivered by Tuba Altunkaya, a renowned multimedia journalist at Euronews with over 14 years of international experience.

The training continued with interactive lectures, practical exercises, group discussions, and text and video analysis.

It should be noted that the training program will run until June 27.
