Event on Ecological Terror and the Nature of Karabakh held at BSU
30-05-2025

An event titled “Ecological Terror and the Nature of Karabakh” was held at the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University (BSU). At the event, faculty member Shabnam Alizade delivered a presentation on the topic.

In her speech, Shabnam Alizade provided detailed information about the acts of ecological terror committed against the nature of Karabakh during the period of occupation by Armenian vandals. She stated that over the years, alongside other crimes, the occupying state committed massive ecological crimes on Azerbaijani territories. Our natural environment, along with our cultural and historical heritage, was deliberately targeted:

“There is substantial evidence of ecological terror acts carried out in Karabakh during the occupation, including the large-scale destruction of biodiversity and grave violations of international law. During this period, rare and endangered species of flora and fauna in Karabakh were harmed, their habitats were destroyed, and in some cases, these species were entirely eradicated.”

The event also highlighted the ongoing efforts to investigate the facts of ecological terror perpetrated by Armenia in Karabakh and surrounding areas on an international level. The importance of evaluating these ecological crimes through international expertise and holding perpetrators legally accountable was emphasized.

It was noted that ecological monitoring and restoration works are currently being carried out in the liberated territories. These monitoring efforts have revealed the destruction of nature and wildlife, as well as the deliberate demolition of mosques and historical monuments, further exposing the true nature of Armenian vandalism:

“Following the historic victory in the 44-day Patriotic War in November 2020, our nation has regained its rightful ownership of its ancestral lands. Today, alongside unprecedented reconstruction work led by our powerful state in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, our magnificent natural environment is also being revived and restored.”

The event concluded with discussions around the topic.
