Opening of the “Student Space” at BSU
26-05-2025

On May 26, 2025, Baku State University (BSU), in collaboration with the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (AHIK), inaugurated a new “Student Space” on the university campus.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, BSU Rector Elchin Babayev emphasized that the newly opened “Student Space” is one of the best examples of initiatives implemented at BSU within the framework of the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty.” He noted that in addition to the right to education, the Constitution of Azerbaijan guarantees the right to rest and the right to social services. The “Student Space” will enrich the social life of BSU students and create opportunities for networking.

The Rector also highlighted that the “Student Space” will serve as a venue for students to spend their leisure time, hold debates and discussions, and build connections. He added: “This space is not limited to Baku State University students only. Students from other higher education institutions can also carry out their projects here. The planning of this area was based on the challenges of the modern era, particularly the state’s policy on green technologies and solving environmental issues. All lighting in the area is powered by solar panels. One of the important features of the project is a 24/7 mini-library, where any student can read books at any time, benefit from them, and then return them. They may even contribute their own books to the library.”

Chairman of AHIK, Sahib Mammadov, noted that the foundations of youth policy in Azerbaijan were laid by National Leader Heydar Aliyev and emphasized the significant role of BSU—where the National Leader studied—in the country’s scientific and educational sphere. He added that in recent years, BSU has undergone reforms in line with modern challenges, and that AHIK has successfully collaborated with BSU. He underlined that the “Student Space” will contribute to the social development of university students.

Other speakers, including Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Youth and Sports Shahin Ismayilov, Advisor to the Minister of Science and Education Nicat Mammadli, and Chairman of the BSU Student Trade Union Committee Zohrab Javadzade, stressed that the “Student Space” will foster student socialization, strengthen leadership skills, and contribute to the overall development of the university.
