21-05-2025

A Republican scientific conference titled “Geography at the Crossroads of Global Trends”, dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, was held at the Faculty of Geography of Baku State University (BSU), bringing together students, master’s students, and young researchers.

The event was organized by the Faculty’s Student Scientific Society (SSS). In his opening speech, the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Maqsud Gojamanov, emphasized that in today’s world, global changes have increased the relevance of geographical research, and the preparation of qualified specialists in this field is of particular importance. He also underlined the great value that National Leader Heydar Aliyev placed on youth and science, noting that the conference aims to support the scientific potential of young researchers.

Representatives of various departments of the faculty — including Aydın Ibrahimov, Chingiz Ismayilov, Saleh Naghiyev, Shakar Mammadova — as well as SSS Chair Fidan Rajabova and master’s student Imran Bayramov, delivered speeches. They emphasized that scientific and technological progress has created complex global challenges, particularly concerning the relationship between humans and the environment.

During the plenary session, faculty students presented their research:

  • Fidan Ahmadova on “The Establishment of Free Economic Zones in Singapore and Related Challenges”,

  • Elvina Mammadova on “Research on the Maximum Flow of the Zayam River”,

  • Hokuma Orucova on “The Organization of Geography Olympiads and Their Psychological Aspects.”

The conference continued in three thematic sessions, where more than 20 students presented their work, followed by scientific discussions.
