03-06-2025

A scientific seminar on the topic “The Role of School Libraries in the Information Support of Education” was held at the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University (BSU), organized by the Student Scientific Society (SSC).

At the seminar, master's student Aynur Alasgarova from the Department of Library and Information Resource Management delivered a presentation.

The young researcher provided insights into the historical development of school libraries, their stages of evolution, and their role in the education process. Citing the Law on Library Services, which defines libraries as social institutions fulfilling educational, scientific, cultural, and informational functions, she emphasized the significance of school libraries in these areas. She noted their essential role in students’ education, personal development, and cultivation of reading habits.

The research also examined how school libraries—key actors in the information support of education—must be organized in accordance with the demands of the modern information society. Topics included enriching library collections with digital resources, enhancing students' information-seeking skills, fostering independent learning habits, and managing school library information resources. All these factors were shown to have a direct positive impact on the quality of the teaching and learning process.

The presentation also highlighted structural features, capacity, goals, book collections, acquisition sources, and various programs and events conducted by school libraries.

The seminar concluded with a Q&A session.
