The Student Development Center has been inaugurated at Baku State University (BSU).
The opening ceremony was attended by the university leadership, representatives of the Ministry of Science and Education, the Milli Majlis, the University’s Public Oversight Board, faculty members, and students.
In his speech, Rector Elchin Babayev emphasized that today marks a new chapter in the development of BSU, which is celebrating its 106th anniversary. He noted that the university has entered the new academic year with significant achievements, including improved results in international rankings. In the 2025/2026 academic year, around 5,300 students were admitted to the bachelor’s level and 1,100 to the master’s level, with a notable number of high-scoring students.
“The university preserves its rich traditions while, at the same time, moving forward with ambitious plans in line with its strategic development. The newly opened Student Development Center will create opportunities for students to network around various interests, support their growth, and provide a space for discussing and solving scientific challenges and new ideas. We believe that such spaces will not only strengthen students’ achievements in science, education, and innovation but also contribute to organizing their social lives more effectively,” the rector said.
He further highlighted BSU’s plans to modernize its educational and research infrastructure in the coming years, adding: “Several student-oriented spaces are already functioning on our campus, including the ‘Eco-Space’ launched within COP29, the ‘Student Space,’ the ‘Eco-Energy Station,’ among others.”
Concluding his remarks, the rector stressed that preparing highly qualified specialists for Azerbaijan is a primary duty of every higher education institution: “By fulfilling this duty with integrity and high quality, we are making a valuable contribution to the future development of our country.”
