Baku State University’s (BSU) Career and Alumni Relations Center organized a training session on “Adapting to a New Environment and Stress Management” delivered by clinical psychologist and psychotherapist Afaq Mammadova as part of the “Adaptation Program”.
At the opening of the event, Parvana Babayeva, Advisor at the Career Planning Department, informed participants about the program. She noted that the four-week “Adaptation Program” aims to support first-year students in adjusting to the new university environment, strengthening their initiative, and shaping their future career plans. The program covers sessions on psychological adaptation and motivation, entrepreneurial skills from idea to project, social engagement and volunteering, as well as artificial intelligence and future skills.
During the training, the instructor provided extensive information about the emotional, social, and academic challenges students may face in the early stages of university life, the discrepancies between expectations and reality, and mechanisms of adaptation. Through the “Circle of Change” method, participants analyzed new developments in their lives and built their personal development maps.
The training also addressed the nature of stress and strategies for managing it. The psychologist emphasized that stress is often not a threat, but rather a mechanism that helps the body adapt to changes. Students were introduced to practical techniques that help reduce stress.
