04-03-2026

An academic seminar titled “Azerbaijan’s Participation in Regional Energy Projects” was organized at Baku State University (BSU) by the Student Scientific Society of the Faculty of International Relations and Economics. The event was held as part of a series dedicated to March 27 — “Science Day” in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Chair of the Student Scientific Society of the Faculty of International Relations and Economics, Ali Badalov, emphasized that the country’s energy policy, originally established by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, is being successfully continued by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in line with modern global challenges. He noted that Azerbaijan serves as a reliable partner in international energy projects and global energy markets.

Head of the Department of World Economy, Associate Professor Farid Babayev, provided an in-depth analysis of the historical development of Azerbaijan’s energy strategy, particularly highlighting the evolution of energy diplomacy since the “Contract of the Century.” He stressed that transnational energy projects implemented with Azerbaijan’s initiative and participation significantly contribute to regional stability and the strengthening of economic cooperation. He also underlined Azerbaijan’s growing role in Europe’s energy security, the strategic importance of projects such as the Southern Gas Corridor, and the prioritization of the green energy agenda.

Head of the Department of Economics, Vahid Abbasov, examined the macroeconomic impacts of regional energy projects, explaining how export revenues influence economic stability and social welfare. He noted that the country’s energy strategy has become a fundamental pillar of Azerbaijan’s long-term sustainable development model.

Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Galib Gafarli, and Deputy Dean for Social Affairs and Student Work, Elmar Dadashov, highlighted the importance of such discussions in academic settings.

At the conclusion of the seminar, students’ questions were addressed, and an extensive exchange of views took place on the future prospects of energy diplomacy, regional cooperation mechanisms, and Azerbaijan’s increasing role in the international economic system.
