An event dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the April Battles, one of the glorious chapters in Azerbaijan’s history, was held at the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University (BSU). The event began with the performance of the National Anthem, followed by a minute of silence in memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Azerbaijan’s territories. A video highlighting the April Battles was then screened.
The event, held within the framework of the university’s “History of Victory” lecture series, was moderated by Dashgin Mahammadli, Deputy Dean for Social Affairs and Student Relations of the Faculty of Information and Document Management. He noted that the April Battles represented a turning point in Azerbaijan’s military and political history and emphasized that the state-building strategy established by National Leader Heydar Aliyev had been successfully continued by President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, ultimately leading the country to a historic victory.
Invited military personnel—including participants of the April Battles and the Patriotic War, as well as reserve officers of the Special Forces, Colonel Emin Abishov, Lieutenant Colonel Habil Mammadrzayev, Captain Anar Huseynov, and Warrant Officer Vurgun Gurbanov—shared their experiences from military operations against occupying forces. They spoke about their personal combat experiences and the heroism of their comrades. The officers highlighted that the military development policy initiated by Heydar Aliyev had been successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev, resulting in the establishment of a modern and highly capable armed forces. They also stressed the strategic significance of the April Battles, describing them as an important milestone on the path to the Great Victory.
Speakers at the event included veteran of the First Karabakh War and Head of the Department of Publishing and Editorial Studies Knyaz Aslan, Associate Professor of the Department of Document Management Solmaz Sadigova, lecturer and mother of a war veteran Vazufa Khudiyeva, and BSU student Bahar Aliyeva, daughter of martyr Ali Hasanov. In their remarks, they reflected on Azerbaijan’s historic victory and emphasized the important role such meetings play in fostering patriotism among students.
