An awareness event titled “Broken Silence” dedicated to gender equality and the prevention of domestic violence was held at Baku State University (BSU), jointly organized by the Faculty of Geography and the Student Youth Organization.
Opening the event, Zehra Yusubova, Chair of the Student Youth Organization for the Faculty of Geography, emphasized that violence is not only an individual issue but also a social problem that negatively affects societal development. She highlighted the importance of openly discussing the topic, noting that giving a voice to those who remain silent is one of the primary goals of such initiatives.
An interactive dialogue among students followed, focusing on misconceptions about gender equality, the psychological and social consequences of domestic violence, and access to available support mechanisms. The discussion provided a platform for exchanging perspectives and raising awareness.
At the end of the event, a “Message Game” involving student participation was held. During the activity, participants wrote short motivational messages promoting equality, empathy, and rejection of violence, passing them to one another. This symbolic gesture was regarded as an expression of solidarity and support.
