An info session on “Sustainable Urban Mobility: Ongoing and Planned Initiatives in Baku” was organized at Baku State University (BSU) by the Azerbaijan Urban Transport Agency (AYNA).
Ramin Samedov, Head of the Department of Humanitarian Affairs and Youth Policy at BSU, highlighted the importance of such educational events and spoke about the university’s ongoing social projects. He emphasized that initiatives aligned with the sustainable city concept have become essential in today’s urban context.
Elmira Abbasova, Head of Internal Communication and Event Management at AYNA, briefed students on the development of micromobility infrastructure. She explained that micromobility initiatives aim to enhance urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion in city centers, and improve environmental conditions. Similar to other global cities, Baku is implementing measures to reduce traffic density while ensuring the safety of cyclists, electric micro-vehicles, and other road users. So far, micromobility lanes have been established on 31 streets and avenues, with plans to extend the network to 100 km.
The session also included an interactive discussion with students about future improvements in Baku’s micromobility system, addressing their questions and suggestions.
The event concluded with a bicycle tour on the BSU campus led by the trainers, promoting practical engagement with sustainable urban mobility concepts.
