BSU co‑hosts observation of the second lunar eclipse of the year
08-09-2025

On September 7, 2025, a live observation of the second lunar eclipse of the year was conducted with the co‑organization support of Baku State University (BSU). This significant scientific and educational event was carried out under the “Promotion of Astronomy Education in Azerbaijan” project, funded by the State Support Agency for Non‑Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and jointly partnered with the Amateur Astronomers Society Public Union, Park Bulvar Mall, Tusi‑Bohm Planetarium, and the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory.

During the event, specially installed telescopes enabled the public to view the different phases of the lunar eclipse in real time. In parallel with the observations, scientists from BSU’s Department of Astrophysics provided detailed scientific explanations about the causes, progression, and astronomical significance of the lunar eclipse, and answered questions from the media and participants.

The observation night was important for increasing interest in space sciences among both the scientific community and younger generations. The event also served to promote astronomy in Azerbaijan, broaden public interest in fundamental sciences, and encourage young people to pursue education in this field in the future.
