Baku State University (BSU) – Community Outreach for Health & Well-Being


Baku State University (BSU) is committed to improving health and well-being in the local community through a range of outreach programs and projects. These initiatives focus on hygiene, nutrition, family planning, sports, exercise, healthy aging, and mental health. They actively engage students, faculty, and community members, including disadvantaged groups and refugee or immigrant communities, to promote healthier lifestyles and raise awareness of health-related topics.


On-Campus Health Services

  • University Polyclinic: BSU operates a polyclinic staffed with 22 doctors and 20 nurses, providing medical services to students, faculty, and staff, including targeted outreach for disadvantaged and refugee populations.

  • Mental Health Support: Counseling services, workshops, and psychosocial support are provided to ensure the mental well-being of all students and staff, including those from vulnerable communities.


Student Volunteering and Community Projects

  • Volunteer Programs: Students participate in volunteer initiatives, contributing to the health and well-being of local communities, disadvantaged people, and refugee or immigrant families.

  • Community Health Campaigns: Students organize awareness campaigns and educational sessions in local schools, community centers, and refugee settlements on hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention, and mental health.

  • Partnerships with Local Organizations: BSU collaborates with NGOs, local health institutions, and the National Ophthalmology Center to provide mobile clinics, free screenings, and health services for underserved populations.


Mental Health and Well-Being Services

  • Psychosocial Support: Comprehensive on-campus and outreach counseling addresses the needs of disadvantaged and refugee students, including stress management, trauma support, and emotional well-being programs.

  • Health Promotion Programs: Wellness workshops, fitness programs, and mental health awareness campaigns target both university members and local communities, with special attention to vulnerable groups.


Sports and Physical Activity Initiatives

  • Community Sports Events: BSU organizes sports competitions, fitness challenges, and active lifestyle programs that include local youth, disadvantaged groups, and refugee participants.

  • Fitness Workshops: Professional trainers lead workshops adapted for all age groups and abilities, helping students and community members integrate exercise into daily life.


Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle Campaigns

  • Nutritional Education: Seminars and workshops educate communities on balanced diets and healthy eating habits, with a focus on families in disadvantaged or refugee communities.

  • Expert Collaborations: BSU works with nutritionists and health experts to provide guidance tailored for vulnerable populations, including low-income families and immigrants.


Aging Well Programs

  • Health Screenings for Seniors: The university organizes health screenings for elderly community members, including those in marginalized or immigrant populations.

  • Educational Workshops: Workshops address mobility, nutrition, mental health, and chronic disease management, promoting well-being among older adults.

  • Intergenerational Activities: Students interact with elderly participants, including refugees or disadvantaged seniors, fostering mutual learning and understanding.


Through these initiatives, BSU demonstrates its strong commitment to enhancing health and well-being across local communities, disadvantaged groups, and refugee or immigrant populations, using comprehensive outreach programs and active student involvement.
