At Baku State University, the field visit of accreditation commissions has commenced within the framework of the international programme accreditation conducted by the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (IQAA).
In line with accreditation procedures, international expert panels have begun on-site evaluation of 14 master’s degree programmes to assess teaching and institutional activities.
A meeting was held between IQAA representatives and the leadership of BSU, including heads of structural units. Rector Elchin Babayev provided detailed information on the University’s recent achievements and measures implemented in the field of quality assurance. Asiman Ilyasov, Advisor to the Rector on quality assurance, spoke about the establishment and effectiveness of internal and external quality assurance systems at the University.
Following this, IQAA President Sholpan Kalanova outlined the role and importance of international accreditation in developing quality assurance systems in higher education institutions and informed participants about the agenda of the field visit. Member of the Accreditation Commission, Miras Daulenov from Coventry University Kazakhstan, presented the evaluation criteria applied by IQAA and explained the main principles of the accreditation process.
Based on the cooperation agreement between BSU and IQAA, the accreditation process is being carried out in accordance with the European Standards and Guidelines (ESG) within the European Higher Education Area. International experts from Pakistan, Türkiye, Slovenia, and Kazakhstan are involved in the evaluation of the 14 educational programmes.
During the field visit, experts will hold meetings with academic and administrative staff, students, graduates, and employers, and will also examine programme content, teaching methodologies, quality assurance mechanisms, and the University’s material and technical resources.
It was noted that IQAA is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and is registered in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR), ensuring that the accreditation process meets international standards and that its results are globally recognized.
The ongoing field visit is of significant importance for evaluating the quality of BSU’s educational programmes in line with international standards, further enhancing the academic environment, and strengthening the University’s global competitiveness.
