Master’s students of the first year from the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the Faculty of Biology at Baku State University (BSU) participated in a scientific-practical training held at the Modern Breeding and Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Institute of Crop Science of Azerbaijan. The training was organized under the supervision of Associate Professor Roza Mammadova.
The sessions were conducted by the Head of the laboratory Halima Mammadova and the Head of the Immunogenetics Department of the Institute of Genetic Resources of Azerbaijan, Elchin Hajiyev. The speakers provided comprehensive insights into the methodological foundations of molecular-genetic analyses, laboratory safety regulations, and the application of molecular marker systems in breeding and the assessment of genetic diversity.
The training, conducted in a modern laboratory environment, focused on the practical implementation of DNA isolation from plant leaf tissues and the application of molecular marker techniques. During the sessions, participants directly performed key stages such as sample preparation, cell lysis, centrifugation, and purification of genetic material. The interactive format enabled students to individually engage in laboratory procedures.
It was noted that the primary objective of the training was to strengthen students’ theoretical knowledge in plant genomics and molecular genetics through practical application, enhance their research competencies, and improve their proficiency in working with modern laboratory technologies.
