On October 23, 2024, the Rector of Baku State University (BSU), Elchin Babayev, met with the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics fourth-year students Vüqar Quliyev and Amil Cəbiyev, who achieved success at the International Mathematics Olympiad held in Bulgaria.
During the meeting, the Rector congratulated the students on their outstanding performance and highlighted the university’s growing emphasis on supporting and encouraging participation in olympiads by students in applied sciences. He emphasized that special attention is paid to involvement in competitions and to motivating both teachers and olympiad leaders, stating that this remains one of BSU’s primary priorities.
At the International Mathematics Olympiad, Vüqar Quliyev won first place and received a gold medal, while Amil Cəbiyev placed third and earned a bronze medal. The competition was organized jointly by the American University in Bulgaria and University College London in the city of Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, from August 5 to 11. Additionally, both students were also winners of the Republican Mathematics Olympiad held at BSU in honor of the 101st anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
