A masterclass titled “Porphyry-type copper-molybdenum mineralization in the Karabakh ore region: geological and genetic model based on the ‘Demirli’ deposit” was held at Baku State University (BSU) within the framework of events dedicated to Science Day in Azerbaijan.
The session was delivered by Anar Valiyev, Director of Exploration Geology at Azerbaijan International Mining Company Limited, an elected member of the Society of Economic Geologists, and an associate professor at the Department of Mineral Resources.
During the presentation, detailed insights were provided into the geological structure of the Karabakh ore region, structural-tectonic controls of porphyry-type copper mineralization, hydrothermal alteration systems, and vectoring criteria used in mineral exploration.
It was noted that, for the first time, a geological-genetic model for the “Demirli” deposit has been developed based on extensive geological exploration data. This model explains the possible mechanisms of ore formation, drawing on lithological and mineralogical studies, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses, and other комплекс geological investigations.
The findings indicate a high probability of porphyry-type mineralization systems in adjacent and surrounding areas of the deposit. These prospects were scientifically substantiated using geological, structural, mineralogical, and geochemical indicators. The results were highlighted as having significant scientific and practical importance for understanding the genesis and exploration potential of porphyry copper systems in the Karabakh ore region.
The session concluded with extensive discussions, during which participants’ questions were addressed.
