A conference titled “From Victory to a Sovereign Future” was held at Baku State University (BSU) on the initiative of the “BSU Volunteers” organization and the “Young Volunteers” Public Union to commemorate the 8 November – Victory Day.
The event opened with the National Anthem of Azerbaijan, followed by a moment of silence to honor the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the homeland.
In his address, BSU Vice-Rector for Social Affairs, Student Affairs and Public Relations, Alish Agamirzayev, emphasized that the 44-day Patriotic War demonstrated the strategic leadership of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the heroism of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and the unshakable unity of the Azerbaijani people. He noted that the historical Victory, engraved in golden letters in the nation’s history, laid the foundation for Azerbaijan’s new achievements in the years that followed. According to him, the rapid launch of reconstruction and restoration work in the liberated territories immediately after the war showcased Azerbaijan’s rightful ownership of those lands. Today, the cultural, educational and intellectual life of Azerbaijan is returning to Karabakh. The annual “Kharibulbul” International Music Festival, international forums in Shusha, and the opening of Karabakh University in Khankendi demonstrate Azerbaijan’s strong presence in its restored homeland, with valuable support also provided by fraternal Turkic states.
Ayxan Allahverdiyev, Chairman of the “Young Volunteers” Public Union and a participant of the Patriotic War, stressed that after decades of longing for the homeland, the Azerbaijani people have spent the past five years proudly upholding their nation’s position on international platforms. He highlighted that it is the youth who will shape the new realities of Azerbaijan’s post-war era. For this reason, young people should actively participate in reconstruction efforts in Karabakh, contribute innovative ideas and ensure the accurate and effective promotion of the historic Victory on international stages.
Speakers including Members of Parliament Aydın Hüseynov and Müşfiq Məmmədli, Head of the Information Technologies and Public Relations Department of the Azerbaijan Youth Foundation Pərvanə Cəlallı, daughter of martyr Lieutenant Colonel Anar Əliyev – Nigar Əliyeva, and Patriotic War participant Rahil Khalilov, shared their reflections on the five-year anniversary of Victory. They emphasized that Azerbaijan, a country that has fully restored its sovereignty, celebrates this date with great pride and happiness, while also recounting their memories from the war period.
The event concluded with the screening of the documentary “In the Footsteps of History – Time and the Commander-in-Chief”, produced by Azerbaijan Television and authored by Mahir Gəribov, a lecturer at the BSU Faculty of Journalism.
