A literary and cultural evening titled “The Legacy of Dada Alasgar: 205 Years” was held at Baku State University (BSU) through the joint initiative of the BSU Volunteers Organization and the Dada Alasgar Public Association.
BSU Rector Elchin Babayev noted that events dedicated to the legacy of prominent literary figures play an important role in enriching students’ spiritual development and cultivating their aesthetic appreciation. He emphasized that the works of Ashig Alasgar constitute an invaluable part of Azerbaijan’s literary heritage.
Dean of the Faculty of Information and Document Management, Alemdar Bayramov, highlighted the significant place of ashig art in Azerbaijan’s national and spiritual values and underlined the continued state support for preserving and promoting this cultural tradition. He referred to historical efforts aimed at commemorating Ashig Alasgar’s legacy and emphasized the enduring importance of his literary and artistic contributions.
Chairman of the Dada Alasgar Public Association, Khatai Alasgarli, expressed his gratitude to the BSU community and described Ashig Alasgar as one of the masters of Azerbaijan’s poetic and musical heritage. He noted that the poet’s works continue to illuminate historical realities and cultural values through their artistic depth and social relevance.
Professor Ibadulla Agayev, Doctor of Medical Sciences, and poet-publicist Ramiz Gusarcayli, Chairman of the Guba Branch of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, shared selected verses from Ashig Alasgar’s works and discussed notable aspects of his life and творчество with students.
The artistic segment of the event featured performances by renowned ashigs, who presented traditional musical compositions including “Divani,” “Ruhani,” “Dilqami,” and “Orta Saritel,” as well as musical pieces such as “Gullu” and “Senin o qara tellerin.”
