Dean of the faculty of Biology represents Azerbaijan’s Food Safety Sector on an international scientific platform

Professor Afat Mammadova, Dean of the Faculty of Biology at Baku State University (BSU), delivered a presentation at the 5th International Congress on Agricultural and Food Ethics, held on 23–24 October 2025 at Akdeniz University (Türkiye).

The congress brought together scientists, experts, and food sector professionals from various countries to discuss current issues related to food ethics, food safety, and the development of sustainable food systems.

In her presentation titled “Food Safety and Ethical Approaches in the Azerbaijani Food System: Realities and Prospects,” Professor Mammadova provided detailed information on the legal and regulatory framework of food safety in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the key areas of activity of the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA), the modernization of the certification system, and the implementation of HACCP and ISO standards.

While highlighting Azerbaijan’s positive achievements in the field of food safety, she also addressed existing challenges, particularly the need to improve regional laboratory infrastructure, enhance the technical capacities of small and medium-sized producers, and raise the level of public awareness.

The presentation was met with great interest by international participants and contributed significantly to integrating Azerbaijan’s food safety experience into global discussions.
