As part of a series of events dedicated to the Science Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan (27 March), the Student Scientific Society of the Faculty of Information and Document Management at Baku State University (BSU) organized a debate on “Editing Scientific Literature.”
The debate was moderated by Associate Professor Knyaz Aslan, Head of the Department of Editorial and Publishing Studies. In his opening remarks, he noted that the editing of scientific literature involves ensuring compliance with academic standards, maintaining logical coherence, and eliminating linguistic inaccuracies. He emphasized that this process contributes both to the accuracy of content and to conformity with internationally recognized formatting and publication requirements.
In accordance with the debate format, two teams composed of undergraduate and graduate students were formed. One team presented and defended arguments concerning texts from various scientific disciplines, focusing on terminology, factual accuracy, statistical data, and language standards. The opposing team critically examined and discussed these arguments, engaging in an in-depth exchange of views.
At the conclusion of the event, Knyaz Aslan answered participants’ questions, evaluated their contributions, and highlighted the importance of such debates in developing students’ critical thinking skills and their ability to analyze and work effectively with academic texts.
