Impact of climate change on bird species in Gizilagaj National Park discussed at BSU
26-02-2026

A scientific seminar titled “Impacts of Climate Change on Wintering and Resident Bird Species of Gizilagaj National Park” was held at the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University (BSU) within the framework of events dedicated to Science Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan (27 March).

During the seminar, doctoral student Ramil Hasanov from the Department of Bioecology presented findings on the effects of climate change on the diversity and population size of wintering and resident bird species in Gizilagaj National Park. He shared the results of field studies conducted over multiple years, noting that climate change significantly influences feeding patterns and habitats of bird species.

The presentation highlighted observed changes in the population of rare bird species with international conservation status and provided a dynamic overview of wintering bird populations over time. Particular attention was given to the impact of the declining water level of the Caspian Sea on bird diversity and abundance within the National Park, along with future projections.

Ramil Hasanov emphasized that extreme weather conditions have a more pronounced impact on resident bird species and outlined potential measures to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The seminar concluded with discussions, during which participants’ questions were addressed.
