On November 17, 2025, a master class was held at the History Faculty of Baku State University, conducted by Yaqub Mammadov, leading researcher at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, member of the Azerbaijan–Japan and Azerbaijan–Denmark international archaeological expeditions, and lecturer at the Department of History and Archaeology at Khazar University, holding a PhD in History. The topic of the session was “The development history of Paleolithic studies in Azerbaijan: achievements, challenges, and future tasks.”
The event, organized by the History Faculty, was attended by Professor Tarix Dostiyev, Head of the Department of Archaeology and Ethnography, instructor Gunay Bayramova, and first-year students studying History Teaching.
During the master class, research on the Paleolithic period in Azerbaijan, its formative stages, research methodologies, and key scientific results were thoroughly discussed. Recent findings from the Azerbaijan–Japan and Azerbaijan–Denmark archaeological expeditions at major Paleolithic sites in Azerbaijan—Azikh Cave, Taghlar Cave, and Damjili Cave—were presented, emphasizing their significance in understanding the ancient history of the Caucasus region. At the end of the session, Yaqub Mammadov answered students’ questions.
The master class contributed to expanding students’ scientific outlook, highlighted the importance of studying current problems in Paleolithic research for understanding Azerbaijan’s ancient history, and provided an opportunity for deeper comprehension of this academic field.
