A meeting was held with Yulduz Rahimov, an alumnus of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics of Baku State University (BSU) and a professor at York University in Toronto, Canada.
The event was attended by the faculty members, students, and doctoral candidates of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics.
Dean of the Faculty, Alakbar Aliyev, noted that highly qualified specialists are trained at the faculty in the fields of Computer Science, Informatics Teaching, and Information Security. Graduates of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics successfully work in various countries around the world, including Azerbaijan. One such graduate is Professor Yulduz Rahimov from York University in Toronto. He also serves as the Scientific Secretary of the Union of Azerbaijani Scholars Abroad.
Professor Yulduz Rahimov then delivered a masterclass titled “Number Theory and Cryptography.” He explained that number theory, as a branch of mathematics, focuses on the study of integers and their properties. Although number theory was long considered purely theoretical, its applications in computer science—particularly in cryptography—are of great importance. During the lecture, the speaker provided detailed insights into divisibility and modular arithmetic, integer representations and algorithms, prime numbers and greatest common divisors, solving congruence equations and their applications, as well as key concepts in cryptography.
The masterclass continued in an interactive format, during which students engaged in discussions with the professor and received comprehensive answers to their questions.
