Meeting held within the framework of “Urban Planning and Architecture Week”
13-03-2026

Within the framework of the “Urban Planning and Architecture Week” initiative organized by the BSU Volunteers, a seminar titled “Sustainable urban planning: climate-resilient infrastructure solutions” was held at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan.

The seminar was delivered by Gulnara Abbasova, Deputy Head of the National Hydrometeorology Service. In her speech, she emphasized that issues of sustainable urban planning and climate change mitigation are of global relevance as well as of particular importance for Azerbaijan.

She noted that increasing temperatures, the intensification of extreme weather events, and challenges related to water resource management require new approaches in urban infrastructure planning. In the context of rapid urbanization, especially in Baku and other major cities, particular attention must be given to maintaining ecological balance, expanding green areas, improving rainwater management systems, and applying energy-efficient construction technologies. She also highlighted ongoing efforts in climate monitoring and the use of hydrometeorological data in urban planning, stressing that the development of climate-resilient infrastructure is a key component of Azerbaijan’s sustainable development strategy.

The seminar also included discussions on the role of the Sustainable Development Goals in urban planning, as well as international experience and modern approaches in this field.
