Sustainable Development Goals at Baku State University.

A meeting titled “The Role of Higher Education in the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals” was held at Baku State University (BSU) within the framework of the “Urban Talks” project initiated by the “BSU Volunteers” organization.

During the meeting, Advisor to the Rector for Quality Assurance Asiman Ilyasov provided detailed information on the essence of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as the key targets and indicators defined within this framework. He highlighted the role of higher education institutions in implementing the SDGs, the academic, research, and institutional activities carried out by universities in this direction, and the mechanisms used to evaluate these activities.

The presentation also addressed the impact of universities’ SDG-related performance on international ranking systems, particularly sustainability-oriented rankings, BSU’s position in these rankings, existing practices, and future plans.

It should be noted that the “Urban Talks” project, implemented at the initiative of the “BSU Volunteers” organization, serves as an interactive platform where various topics ranging from urban development to sustainable development are discussed. The project includes expert meetings, non-traditional and creative learning sessions, and urban planning simulations. Increasing students’ knowledge and engagement in connection with the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), organized under the auspices of the United Nations, is also among its main objectives. The “Urban Talks” project provides students with the opportunity to become closely acquainted with modern urban approaches and gain practical experience.
