A meeting titled “The Role of Urbanization in Geopolitics: The Case of International Relations” was held at Baku State University (BSU) within the framework of the “Urban Talks” project, initiated by the “BSU Volunteers” organization.
During the meeting, BSU staff member Gasim Khalilov spoke about the role of urbanization in the domestic and foreign policies of states, the transformation of major cities into geopolitical centers of power, and the impact of this process on regional balances. Based on contemporary examples, the opportunities created by urbanization as well as the challenges it presents were discussed in detail.
Participants were then divided into groups and elaborated on their views regarding urbanization. As part of the group discussions, they exchanged ideas on the social, economic, cultural, and political impacts of urbanization, the development prospects of the urban environment, and the opportunities and challenges this process creates for society.
The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session.
