Students majoring in Museum Studies, Archival Studies and Heritage Preservation at the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University (BSU) visited the Azerbaijan Railway Museum as part of an educational excursion.
The purpose of the visit was to help students reinforce their theoretical knowledge of museum studies through practical observation and to contribute to the development of their professional outlook.
During the excursion, museum guides provided comprehensive information about the history of transportation and its modern stages of development. Students learned that the museum, located in the historic Sabunchu railway station building, serves as one of the main centers preserving Azerbaijan’s railway heritage. Established in 2019 and reopened following reconstruction in 2023, the museum features three exhibition halls, two cinema halls, and a souvenir shop.
Throughout the visit, students explored models, archival photographs, and video materials illustrating the development of Azerbaijan’s railway network. Among the exhibits that attracted particular interest were the historical map of the Transcaucasian Railway and original railway workers’ uniforms dating from 1885 to 1964.
The excursion also included presentations on the technical characteristics of railways and their strategic importance during the First and Second World Wars. At the end of the visit, students’ questions were addressed by museum representatives.
