QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 results show BSU represents Azerbaijan with the most subjects
According to the results announced by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), one of the world’s leading ranking organizations, Baku State University (BSU) has achieved a major success by being included in the ranking list for the first time in 2 broad subject categories this year. In addition, the University has been ranked in 8 narrow subject areas. Based on these indicators, this represents a fourfold increase compared to the previous year. With these results, BSU has become the higher education institution representing Azerbaijan in the highest number of subject areas.
It should be noted that according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 results, BSU is ranked in the range of 401–500 in Natural Sciences and 501–550 in Engineering and Technology among broad subject categories. In narrow subject areas, BSU is ranked 51–100 in Petroleum Engineering, 151–200 in Modern Languages, 251–300 in Mathematics, 301–350 in Law, 401–450 in Chemical Engineering, 401–450 in Physics and Astronomy, 451–500 in Chemistry, and 601–650 in Computer Science and Information Systems.
BSU has achieved notable progress in the two narrow subject areas it was ranked in last year. Specifically, it advanced from 151–175 to 51–100 in Petroleum Engineering, and from 501–600 to 251–300 in Mathematics.
According to the ranking results, for the first time, 1 subject of BSU has been included in the global TOP 100, while 7 subjects have been ranked within the TOP 500, which represents a sevenfold increase compared to the previous year.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject published by QS is a prestigious international ranking list that evaluates higher education institutions globally by individual subjects. The ranking assesses universities based on criteria such as academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations, and international collaboration. Its purpose is to support applicants, researchers, and educational institutions in identifying the strongest universities in specific fields.
The achievements of BSU in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 once again confirm the growth of the University’s research potential, quality of education, and international academic reputation. These results contribute to strengthening BSU’s position in the global higher education space and to broader representation of Azerbaijan in international academic rankings.
