Sustainable Development Goals at Baku State University.

On November 18, 2025, a Republican Scientific Conference dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the Department of Geographical Ecology at Baku State University and the 90th anniversary of Honored Teacher, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Shovqisafa Goychayski, recipient of the “Shöhrət” Order, was held under the theme “Geographical Ecology: Theory, Methodology, and Practice.”

At the opening ceremony, Elchin Babayev, Rector of Baku State University, congratulated Professor Shovqisafa Goychayski on his jubilee and highlighted his significant contributions to the development of science and education in Azerbaijan and at the University. He emphasized that the exemplary life and work of pioneering scholars serve as a model for the younger generation.

Dean of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science, Akif Ağbabalı, spoke about Professor Goychayski’s contributions to professional training and scientific research at the University. He noted that Professor Goychayski authored or co-authored over 200 scientific works, including monographs, textbooks, and large-scale maps of Azerbaijan. He led the Department of Geographical Ecology from 1981 to 2019, which was among the first ecology-focused departments in the former USSR and served as a scientific-methodological center for ecological education across the country.

Conference participants included Məqsəd Qocamanov, Dean of the Faculty of Geography; academic Vasif Babazadə, Head of the Department of Mineral Resources; Zaur İmrani, Acting Director of the Həsən Əliyev Geography Institute; Məhluqə Yusifova, Head of the Department of Geographical Ecology; Professor Sevinc Hacıyeva, Head of the Department of Ecological Chemistry; Professor Çingiz İsmayılov, Head of the Department of Economic and Social Geography; AMEA Corresponding Member Tələt Kəngərli, Head of a Geology Institute Department; Professor Bəhram Əliyev of the Architecture and Construction University; and Professor Aydın İbrahimov, Head of the Department of Economic-Political Geography and Tourism at Baku State University. All speakers highlighted Professor Goychayski’s invaluable services to the development of geography and ecology in Azerbaijan and wished success to the conference.

A video titled “A Life Dedicated to Education, Science, and Professional Training” about Professor Shovqisafa Goychayski was presented during the event.

Professor Goychayski expressed his gratitude for the high level of organization and the recognition of his scientific-pedagogical activities, encouraging young participants to develop themselves, gain knowledge, and remain patriotic.

The two-day conference continues with plenary sessions.
