A roundtable discussion titled “Social Problems Caused by Urbanization” was held at Baku State University (BSU), organized by members of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology of the “BSU Volunteers” organization.
Head of the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology, Professor Rafail Hasanov, provided information on the problems urbanization creates in the areas of social inequality, social exclusion, transportation, and infrastructure. He emphasized that conducting social research on these issues is a pressing necessity.
Vice Dean for Social Affairs of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology Nazakat Karimova, Associate Professors of the Department of Sociology Hormat Javadova and Sevil Ismayilova, as well as lecturer Sudaba Hashimova, spoke about the impact of urbanization on social relations and the global nature of cyber-urbanization.
It was emphasized that cyber-urbanization is a clear example of urbanization transcending geographical boundaries and acquiring a global character. This means that people increasingly “live,” work, and socialize not only in physical cities but also in virtual urban environments. In this sense, urbanization and cyber-urbanization together are among the key factors reshaping the social structure of modern society. In the future, not only the physical infrastructure of cities but also their digital ecosystems will become one of the main indicators determining social well-being.
The roundtable continued with an open discussion on the topic.
