On 14 November 2025, a scientific seminar was held at Baku State University (BSU) within the framework of events dedicated to the 120th anniversary of academician Yusif Mammadaliyev. The seminar was jointly organized by the Faculties of Physics and Mechanics‑Mathematics.
The seminar featured Honored Scientist, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Natiq Atakishiyev, who delivered a presentation on “Eigenvectors of the 5-dimensional discrete Fourier transform in the Newton basis.”
Professor Atakishiyev noted that a simple analytical approach was proposed to determine the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the 5-dimensional operator. This approach is based on the existence of symmetry of the operator and its complex conjugate pair with respect to the discrete reflection operator. The new approach was constructed for the operator and its complex conjugate pair by including the discrete analogue of the well-known psi-function in the continuous case. Based on another known expression of the continuous psi-function, the explicit form of the discrete analogues of the eigenvectors was obtained in terms of the products of Newton basis polynomials evaluated at a given function.
The seminar concluded with a discussion session, during which participants exchanged views and asked questions regarding the presentation.
