On November 27, 2025, a scientific seminar was held at the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University. Doctoral student Alizada Shams Nizami delivered a presentation entitled “Assessment of the solar energy utilization potential in the East Zangezur economic region.”
To evaluate the solar energy potential of the East Zangezur economic region, the researcher conducted an analytical assessment based on regional climate indicators, annual and seasonal variability of solar radiation, number of sunny days, effective radiation hours, and Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) data. The study comprehensively assessed the influence of natural-geographical conditions, terrain structure, cloud cover levels, and climatic factors on solar energy resources.
The research compared the solar radiation potential for energy production across the administrative districts of Gubadli, Zangilan, Lachin, Kalbajar, and Jabrayil within East Zangezur. The presenter also outlined practical opportunities for solar energy utilization based on indicators such as solar elevation and azimuth angles, effective energy production, and annual electricity generation.
The findings indicate that the East Zangezur economic region possesses favorable natural and climatic resources for the development of solar energy and has strong potential to be formed as a “green energy zone.”
The seminar concluded with a Q&A session and scientific discussions on the topic.
